What we do

The Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons (ACPS) comprises a dedicated group of AHPRA-registered specialists who are committed to the discipline of reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. With a deep understanding of lower limb biomechanics and functional anatomy, we are equipped to provide comprehensive care for a wide range of foot and ankle conditions.

Our podiatric surgeons possess extensive expertise in addressing various structural deformities, such as:

  • Bunions
  • Hammertoes
  • Painful flat feet
  • High-arched foot deformities.¬†
  • Bone spurs¬†
  • Heel pain
  • Nerve entrapments
  • Tendon¬†
  • Soft tissue problems
  • Degeneration and arthrosis of the foot and ankle joints
  • Skin and nail conditions¬†
  • Congenital deformities,¬†
  • Trauma-related injuries including fractures, dislocations, and post-traumatic arthrosis.

When necessary, we utilise hardware and fixation constructs to optimise surgical outcomes.

In addition to our specialised training, podiatric surgeons are trained in perioperative medicine, surgical science, pharmacology, and therapeutics. This is not part of a medical degree, but rather part of our unique podiatric surgical training. We work in various hospital settings, collaborating with specialist anaesthetists and engaging with multidisciplinary medical and surgical teams to deliver well-rounded, patient-centred care.

Podiatric surgery remains at the forefront of advancements in foot and ankle surgery, continuously seeking to incorporate the latest surgical techniques and evidence-based practices. Our commitment to ongoing education and engagement with scientific research ensures that our patients benefit from the most up-to-date approaches to care. We actively promote First Nations health, address a vast range of foot issues faced by women and prioritise regional outreach to ensure access to specialised care.

Podiatric Surgeons take great pride in our commitment to quality and patient safety. The ACPS national audit of all surgical cases demonstrates complication rates that are notably lower than the reported complications in the medical literature. This high level of compliance and data-driven approach reflects our unwavering dedication to delivering the highest standards of care and achieving exceptional surgical outcomes.

Podiatric surgeons are registered within the national regulation and accreditation scheme for health care practitioners. Subject to the same governance principles as all registered healthcare professions.

Our qualifications and practice adhere to the highest professional standards, providing you with peace of mind and confidence in the care you receive. In addition, the ACPS Fellowship program has recently been re-accredited by AHPRA, following a rigorous independent assessment.

Podiatric surgeons are true foot and ankle experts. We combine specialised knowledge, advanced surgical techniques, and a compassionate approach to help you regain mobility, alleviate pain, and improve your overall quality of life.
