Under the National registration scheme for health practitioners (July 2010), podiatric surgeons are registered specialists (podiatric surgeons). The ACPS is affiliated with the Australasian Podiatry Council which has endorsed (accredited) the ACPS training program. Ongoing accreditation is the responsibility of the Podiatry Board of Australia.
On 1st April 2010, the Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council identified podiatric surgery as a specialty and gave approval for medical specialists, dental specialists, and podiatric surgeons to have protected specialist titles.
