The Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons (ACPS) is a nationally based organisation responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of guidelines for the practice of podiatric surgery within Australia. Furthermore, the ACPS monitors surgical training and verification of the leadership and proficiency of podiatric surgeons.
All practicing podiatric surgeons within Australia have completed a surgical Fellowship with the ACPS. The ACPS is committed to the advancement of knowledge of podiatric surgery, and endeavours to uphold the highest standards in foot and ankle surgical care by podiatric surgeons within the community.
The ACPS is affiliated with the Australasian Podiatry Council which has endorsed (accredited) the ACPS training program. Additionally, the Australian Podiatry Registration Boards have endorsed the ACPS training program as the standard for surgical practice in podiatry in Australia. Where current legislation allows, Fellows of the ACPS are registered podiatric specialists. Fellows of the ACPS are endorsed as accredited podiatric surgeons by the federal department of health for the purposes of allowing private health insurance rebates.
Research
The ACPS places an important emphasis on research and this is an integral requirement of the training process. Fellows and surgical Registrars are encouraged to undertake research projects related to foot and ankle surgery, contributing to the progression of scientific knowledge in this field.
